The leaves are down, and there is a definite chill in the air here in North Idaho which means that snow isn’t far away! This is a great time of the year to fill up your cup, sit, relax and enjoy some good conversation with your friends and family. It’s also a month of Thanksgiving for all that we have, and here at the roastery we can’t thank you all enough for your continued support which allows us to get up each day and do what we love – create great coffee!
Included in your November shipment you’ll find our Nicaragua – Cafe Diego, and our Thanksgiving blend aptly named Turkey Coma Counterpunch. Because we don’t want you missing out on those exciting Dallas and Detroit football games 😉
First up: Nicaragua – Cafe Diego. This is another new direct relationship coffee that we just picked up last month (and have been holding on to for the coffee club to have first taste!) It presents a nice cup with mild acidity, honey, chocolate, spice, and nuts, with a medium to full body.
Diego and Leslie Chavarria are the owners and administrators of El Dorado coffee farm, and have around 180 hectares of coffee with varietals of Catuai, Catimor, and Sarchimor. Here is a quote from their daughter about how Direct Trade has impacted the family and the community where they live: “We have been blessed by direct trade. It has allowed us to improve our plantations and the quality of our coffee. This also produces funds to better pay our workers. 8 out of 12 months in a year we have around 50 workers at the farm plus their families. During picking season that number increases to 200-350. Direct trade has also allowed us to support 21 churches in the area with pastoral help, construction projects and construction materials. Our prayer is that God continues to bless and open doors through brothers and sisters like you all who love and sell our coffee. May our God continue to bless you!” Here are a few pictures from their farm:
Next is our Thanksgiving blend: Turkey Coma Counterpunch Blend! This is a great coffee for fall, full of flavors of spice, chocolate, and sweet fruits. We hope you’ll share this one with your friends and family as you get together around Thanksgiving. This coffee provides support for a health facility in Papa New Guinea, and also work though Kabum in Uganda, which supports a great group of women there who cultivate this coffee. Here are a few pictures from Papa New Guinea and those impacted by the clinic:
Happy Brewing, and Happy Thanksgiving!
